Petal Cone Tips – Tutorial for alternate sizes and DSP Matting

Hi Girls,

I’ve gathered together a few tips to get the most out of your petal cone die – here is my first example:

This is one of the teacher gifts I created on our Toodyay Weekend – with of course a matching card.  And a close up of the detail:

If you are wondering how I got the stamped images so shiny and deliciously glittery, I stamped in versamark, tapped on Cherry Cobbler Ink (or Old Olive), stamped and then embossed using the new Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder from the Summer Mini. I love the result!

And the matching card:

I’d like to share an easy way to cut out the triangle mats in DSP that I’ve covered each side of my petal cone with:

Cut a strip of your DSP to 11.5cm (your length will depend on how many triangles you want to cut.  My example is A4 length and it gives me enough mats for two cones.

Next measure along the top side and mark at 6.5cm intervals – so at 6.5, 13, 19.5, 26

Next measure along the bottom side and mark at 3.25, then 6.5cm intervals (9.75, 16.25, 22.75, 29.25.

Next you can draw the lines if you like, but I usually just line up the markings on my trim and chop up my triangles.

Easy!

Ok next tip is how to change the shape of your petal cone into a little “chinese takeaway” type box:

Here is my first example:

So as you can see for this size which is a little taller, you first score a line 6cm from crease mark at the top of your cone, and then cut at 8cm (this will leave you a 2cm flap to secure the bottom of your box.  If you want a longer overlap on the bottom maybe for a stronger box, you could leave a 2.5cm gap before cutting offf (at 8.5cm). These measurements will result in a 6cm high box with a smaller base.

And for another example:

This one is is a shorter style, and this is achieved just by scoring and cutting at different measurements.  These measurements will result in a 5cm high box.

I’d just like to shout out to Michelle from ministamper.com who taught me the basics of both of these techniques :)

Hope you liked my tips and if you have any questions just drop me an email or give me a call!

Glitter Stencilling with Lace and a New Mini Catalogue!

CLICK ON THE IMAGE BELOW TO VIEW THE NEW AUTUMN WINTER MINI CATALOGUE FROM STAMPIN UP!

It may be April Fool’s Day but the new Autumn Winter Mini Catalogue from Stampin’ Up! is no joke! (corny eh?).  Seriously though this Mini is a little ripper, jam packed with new exciting products like the Eat Chocolate Stampset and the Big Shot Adhesive Sheets – both featured here today:

and a very cute stamp set:

Oh and did I mention the co-ordinating punch?

The project I have to show you today certainly has WOW factor:

My background pattern has been created using the Bigshot adhesive sheets and a Glitter Stencilling technique that my stamping friend Vanessa demonstrated at stamp club last month! Glitter stencilling you might ask – How does that work? Here’s how:

Step 1

Cut your adhesive sheet to size and carefully peel off the printed side.  It’s important not to handle the adhesive as it may lead to missing spots on your stencilled background. Apply to a base card – in this case I’ve chosen Baja Breeze:

Step 2

remove the other coversheet, exposing the adhesive:

Step 3

Place an open design piece of lace fabric over your adhesive and press firmly down:

Step 4

Choose your first glitter colour (in this case chocolate) and pour liberally over the cardstock, making sure you cover all the adhesive – TIP this is when your powder pal trays will come in very handy! Make sure once you have covered your cardstock, you shake and tap off all excess glitter, undo the stopper on the end of your tray and tip the unused glitter back into the container – brilliant!

Step 5

Remove the lace “stencil” from your cardstock – you will see the adhesive exposed from underneath the stencil (don’t throw the lace away – you can use it over and over again!):

Step 6

Now the fun part – add you second glitter colour (here I’ve used light blue to match my Baja Breeze Cardstock) this layer of glitter will only stick to the adhesive still exposed – and I’ve done this on my larger powder pals tray:

And a closer look at the effect:

And aren’t the Eat Chocolate stamped images so much fun? Here is a similar card I created using a different style of lace:

I just love this colour combo of Early Espresso, Daffodil Delight and Very Vanilla! I kept with this same combo to create another card featuring the Eat Chocolate Set and the matching decorative punch – so simple but so effective!

Mini Note Card Folder Tutorial with Template

Hi Girls,

I have a tutorial for you today – it’s my first one so I am excited to post it! It’s for this project:

What I have for you here is a Folder that is secured by a decorative belly band and can hold up to 6 Note Cards (I have made mine with 4) with Stampin’ Up! Mini Envelopes. Here is the folder open:

I designed this folder using entirely Free Sale-a-bration stamp sets on promotion with any $100 order or Workshop over $600 until the end of March.

Note: for ease of supplies all white card used for stamping on is water colour paper – I like the texture and decided to use it for that reason.

The measurements for this folder are as follows:

Measurements (all cm)

  • Folder – Cut your card stock 28.5 x 12.5
  • Score as per the template link below and remove the shaded area

Jan’s Mini Note Card Folder Scoring Template

  • Belly band – Cut 23 x 6, and score at 2,10.5,12.5,21
  • Belly band mat watercolour paper – Cut 8 x 5.5
  • Note Cards – Cut at 14 x 7 and score in middle
  • Folder – Front mat – Cut at 8×8
  • Folder – Inside DSP Mat (with sentiment) – Cut at 8 x8

Folder Assembly and Decoration

  • Fold on all score lines making sure that the 2cm spine is on your left and the 1cm spine is on your right. Secure each pocket with sticky strip.
  • Run front mat through the Square Lattice textured embossing folder and spray with Night of Navy Shimmer Mist – dry off with heat tool for quick assembly.
  • Ink the edges of inside DSP mat with Night of Navy and a Stampin’ sponge and adhere.
  • Punch Scallop Circle in Crumb Cake and spray with Night of Navy Shimmer Mist – dry off with heat tool for quick assembly.
  • Colour the For You stamp (SAB Punch Bunch) with markers Baja Breeze, Soft Suede and River Rock, stamp onto the REVERSE smooth side of watercolour paper and punch out with 1 3/8 circle punch.
  • Adhere to scallop circle and attach to the inside DSP mat with a dimensional.

Belly Band Decoration

  • Take your Watercolour mat and press the Crumb Cake inkpad down onto the ROUGH side. This gives you a really nice background effect. Ink the edges with Night of Navy and a stampin sponge.
  • Stamp the larger background stamp from (SAB Bliss) in Night of Navy
  • Stamp the butterfly in Marina Mist (SAB Bliss) on the REVERSE smooth side of a piece of watercolour paper and cut out with paper snips, then adhere with a dimensional.
  • Use the Buttons die and BIGSHOT to cut out the large button in Crumb Cake. Ink the edges with Night of Navy
  • Attach an antique brad (Summer Mini) through the centre of the button shape and attach with a dimensional.
  • On the back of the belly band, punch a Scallop Square in Marina Mist. Stamp the Made with Love Stamp (Art By Design) onto the reverse of a piece of watercolour paper and punch with Square Punch. Adhere together and attach with a dimensional.

Belly Band Assembly

  • Fold on score lines and join with sticky strip – careful not to join too tightly as it may not slip over your folder – it is useful to wrap around the folder and join when in place.

Mini Card 1 – Owl

  • Stamp owl from (SAB Punch Bunch) in Marina Mist on Confetti Cream Card and punch using the owl punch.
  • Adhere both DSP mats together (Greenhouse Gala DSP and Travel Journal DSP) and adhere to Confetti Cream Card.
  • Stamp the True Friend stamp (SAB Punch Bunch) in Night of Navy on the bottom corner
  • Adhere the Owl on a dimensional.
  • Stamp the Mini Envelope to match if desired.

Mini Card 2 – Thinking of You Sparkle

  • Using Versa Mark, stamp the flower from (SAB Bliss) on the edges of your Crumb Cake Note Card (no need to stamp middle section – you won’t see it!)
  • Add the thinking of you sentiment (SAB So Happy For You) in Night of Navy to the watercolour paper (use a stampamajig if you like).
  • Stamp the same flower as above in Marina Mist all over.
  • Use a 2-way glue pen to highlight parts of each flower and then sprinkle Dazzling Diamonds over the glue until all covered…SPARKLE!
  • Stamp the Mini Envelope to match if desired.

Mini Card 3 – Blooms and Bees

  • Press the Crumb Cake inkpad to the rough side of your watercolour paper.
  • Stamp the flower combination in Black Stazon Ink – and add the bee! So cute!
  • Use Stampin’ Markers River Rock and Baja breeze to highlight SECTIONS of your image.
  • Then use an Aqua Painter to spread the ink around to your desired shading.
  • Stamp the Mini Envelope to match if desired

Mini Card 4 – Thanks

  • Run the Marina Mist mat through the textured embossing folder and spray with Night of Navy Shimmer Mist. Dry off with heat tool for quick assembly. Adhere to card.
  • Punch Boho Blossoms from NEWSPRINT DSP, stack them and punch a hole in the centre.
  • Stamp the Thanks sentiment (SAB So Happy For You) in Night of Navy on a piece of Confetti Cream and Punch using the Modern Label Punch.
  • Attach the Boho Blossoms to the punched label with a small brad and attach to card (no dimensional here or the card will sit too high).
  • Stamp the Mini Envelope to Match If Desired.

Now you have completed the four cards, tuck them inside your folder with their envelopes and close folder with Belly band to secure!  Can you imagine the possibilities? I plan on creating a collection of these to have on hand as personal hand crafted gifts for friends and loved ones – why don’t you try one today?

And here is another colour combination, which I created using the delicious colour combo of Chocolate Chip, Tempting Turquoise and Daffodil Delight.  The DSP I’ve used is retired but Greenhouse Gala has a beautiful design featuring DD and it would work equally as well :)

I’ve kept my cards free of sentiment so that they can be used for ANY occasion – and used one single stamp set – SAB Sweet Summer  if you love these blooms as much as I do – you only have a little over a week to place a $100 order and receive your set for FREE!

Thanks for stopping by!
